About Authors in the Haunted City

CM Author Events does not permit the use of generative artificial intelligence (“generative AI”). We have always valued human creativity and the work of authors, artists, designers, narrators, editors, and other publishing professionals. We ask every participant to honor those values by refraining from using generative AI in their books, artwork, and event-related promotional materials.

Because generative AI is becoming increasingly more difficult to identify, CM Author Events cannot inspect or independently verify every participant’s work. Given the number of events and participants we serve, we cannot guarantee complete compliance with this policy. We therefore rely on participants to represent their work honestly. Anyone whose work or business practices do not comply with this policy is respectfully asked not to participate.

We recognize that opinions regarding generative AI vary and that authors have the autonomy to determine how they conduct their businesses. However, participants whose practices do not align with the values and policies of CM Author Events are encouraged to pursue other opportunities to promote their work.

Participant Conduct

CM Author Events is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment in which readers and publishing professionals can celebrate books together. All participants are expected to:

• Treat others with courtesy and respect, even when opinions or business practices differ.
• Refrain from confronting, criticizing, targeting, or harassing others, including through social media.
• Avoid making public accusations or assumptions about another person’s writing or creative process.
• Comply with all applicable copyright, trademark, privacy, contractual, and event policies.
• Keep event-related conversations professional, respectful, and constructive.
• Refrain from harassment, discrimination, fraud, or the misrepresentation of AI-generated work as human-created work.

Advertising and Promotional Materials

All advertising and promotional materials created by participants for CM Author Events must be produced without generative AI. This includes, but is not limited to graphics, illustrations, images, videos, voiceovers, book covers, character artwork, and other promotional content.

If CM Author Events becomes aware that a participant has used generative AI in connection with event advertising or promotional materials, the participant will be asked to remove the materials immediately and discontinue their use. Failure to comply may result in removal from the promotional team or event.
